hush.

For the written word.
And the spoken one.

An EPUB and PDF reading application with on-device neural narration, a choice of voices, and a place that stays saved.

Books stay on your device. Reading and listening have their own saved places. The interface gives the text room.

Search Atlas

Make the next decision visible.

Build a pathfinding problem, compare algorithms on the same terrain, then step backwards through the decisions that produced a route.

Try a search

One terrain. Different decisions.

0 visited— route cost— moves

The dark green cells cost seven to enter. A* and Dijkstra minimise cost; BFS minimises moves.

S is the start; G is the goal. Select a cell to add or remove a wall. Use arrow keys to navigate, then Enter to edit. This is a small original portfolio study; the complete laboratory is in Search Atlas.

Under the surface

A few decisions
worth opening up.

The choices that make a project work are often the parts you cannot see.

01 Reading state is not audio state.

Changing a chapter and resuming a spoken sentence are different actions. Hush stores source-aligned reading and listening positions separately, and follows actual media events.

Explore Hush's architecture
02 A picture is not a numerical check.

Gateway separates computation from drawing and compares recorded fixtures against an independent SciPy implementation. The scope and assumptions sit alongside the visualisation.

Read the numerical decisions
03 Playback should be a real history.

Search Atlas records decisions and reconstructs state from packed transitions and checkpoints. Rewind reveals what the engine actually did, and timings are kept separate from animation.

02 / About

A little
about me.

I'm Vai, a final-year Software Engineering student at the University of Western Australia, based in Perth.

I like building applications I want to use, and working out how the systems underneath them behave. Reading, algorithms and physics give me plenty to work with.

My projects let me work across the interface and the implementation: a private place to read, a laboratory for gravitational transport, and a way to see a search algorithm think.

I'm looking for a junior or graduate developer role after completing my degree in 2026.
